First Bloodhound Academy Class in the State of New Jersey Graduates From CMC Police Academy

Cape May Court House - Cape May County Sheriff Gary Schaffer and Freeholder Vice-Director Leonard Desiderio participated in the graduation ceremonies for the Police Bloodhound Academy on May 1, 2013 at the Cape May County Public Safety Training Center.  Six officers, who began training for the 11-week course on February 19, 2013, completed the Academy – the first of its kind in the State of New Jersey.
 
This Bloodhound Academy was conducted by the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with the National Police Bloodhound Association and the Cape May County Police Academy.  Curriculum included basic man trailing, scent articles, trail work, report writing, criminal laws, first aid for K-9’s, mental illness awareness, critical incident stress management, SWAT / tactical training and trailing and K-9 deployment.  Lead instructors for the program were Sheriff’s Officer Russell Norcross and Roger Titus, Training Coordinator with the National Police Bloodhound Association. 
 
The following officers and their K-9 partners successfully completed the program:
Sheriff Officer Erick Teasenfitz and K-9 partner Hank – Cape May County Sheriff’s Office
Sheriff Officer Jose Gomez and K-9 partner West – Cape May County Sheriff’s Office
Detective Michael Tesei and K-9 partner Joe – Essex County Sheriff’s Office
Corrections Officer Andrew Hecksher and K-9 partner Oliver – Salem County Sheriff’s Office
Sheriff Officer Joseph Kleinow and K-9 partner Luke – Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office
Officer Angela Alexander and K-9 partner “G-Man” – Murfreesboro Police Department, Tennessee
