EMERGENCY PROCLAMATION RESCINDED! HURRICANE EARL / SEPTEMBER 2-3-4, 2010 The local disaster emergency proclamation issued on the 2nd day of September, 2010 at 3 p.m. is no longer necessary; therefore, it was rescinded at noon today, September 3, 2010.
Update Friday, September 3, 2010 Noon:
The County has lifted its Emergency Proclamation. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Cape May County. We are expected to experience Earl’s strongest winds this afternoon which could range between 30 and 40 miles per hour with 50 mph gusts. The highest rainfall will be along the coast, approximately 1 to 2 inches.
Update Friday, September 3, 2010, 10:30 a.m.
A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Cape May County. We are expected to experience Earl’s strongest winds starting at noon today which will range between 30 and 40 miles per hour with 50 mph gusts. The highest rainfall will be along the coast, approximately 1 to 2 inches. The County is anticipating lifting its Emergency Proclamation at 4 p.m. today.
Friday, September 3, 2010 - Update for Today:
Tropical Storm Warning in effect for Cape May County. Any loose items that could blow away from heavy winds or vehicles that are parked in flood prone areas should be moved. High tide will be around 3:30 pm. Places that are prone to flooding may see minor to moderate flooding.
Winds: Sustained tropical storm force winds are expected
Storm surge and storm tide: The impact from combined storm surge and tide waters is expected to be minor to locally moderate. The storm surge is forecast to range from 1 to 2 feet… and locally 3 feet. High surf is expected today with minor to moderate beach erosion.
Rip currents: High risk of rip currents at area beaches
Beach goers are urged to ONLY SWIM IN PROTECTED AREAS AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS OF LIFEGUARDS

Hurricane Earl downgraded to category 2, rain and high winds expected to reach Cape May County this afternoon. Tropical Storm Warning in effect for Cape May County.
Wind gusts 39 miles per hour or higher. Strong Rip Currents and rough surf for today. Heaviest rain is expected near the coast with less rain inland.As part of its Preparedness measures, County signed Emergency Proclamation putting in motion emergency plan for Cape May County.
