Cape May County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti is making appointments to perform marriage and civil union ceremonies in the Cape May County Clerk's Office.

How to Obtain a Marriage License in New Jersey:

Applications for New Jersey marriage licenses must be obtained in the Municipal Registrar's Office in the municipality where either the bride or groom resides.  If both bride and groom are from out of state, they may apply at the Municipal Registrar's Office in the municipality where the ceremony will take place. 

Fee:  $28.00 is due at the time of the application.
 
The bride, groom and one witness who is 18 years of age or older and knows the couple must appear at the Municipal Registrar's Office.  Some municipalities will require proof of residency such as a driver's license, lease or tax return.

It is recommended that you apply at least two weeks before the ceremony.  You may apply as early as 6 months prior to the wedding.  You must apply at least 72 hours prior to issuance of the marriage license.  The marriage license is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance.

The official who performs the ceremony must file the license with the Municipal Registrar in the Municipality where the ceremony was performed within 5 days of the ceremony.

Premarital blood tests are no longer necessary in New Jersey.

Applications for New Jersey civil union licenses must be obtained in the Municipal Registrar's Office in the municipality where either the partner resides.  If both partners are from out of state, they may apply at the Municipal Registrar's Office in the municipality where the ceremony will take place.
