PUBLIC RECREATIONAL BATHING:
The Cape May County Health Department recognizing that our County is a resort area having numerous motel, campground, and condominium swimming pools as well as spas and lakes has the responsibility to plan and implement an effective sanitation and safety program for these recreational bathing areas. The recreational bathing facilities are inspected, twice, during the summer season (June - September) in accordance with Chapter IX, Public Recreational Bathing (N.J.A.C. 8:26-1 et seq.). There are approximately 700 recreational bathing facilities. Appropriate enforcement actions consists of closure notifications from the Public Health Coordinator and summonses issued. The department also conducts investigations within 24 hours of all deaths and serious injuries and provides a report to the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.
