Health Education Programs:

The Cape May County Department of Health serves the health education needs of county residents and agencies.  Health promotion and educational materials are available free of charge. Health Education staff are available to provide free community health education presentations and participate in health fairs and other community events. Topics include, but are not limited to: nutrition, physical fitness, STD’s, drug/alcohol abuse, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, child safety, and senior safety.  To request materials or to schedule a presentation, please call   609-465-1225 or 609-463-6521

 Pre School Programs

·         Ever Taste a Rainbow?  A fun, interactive program for pre-school children about fruits and vegetables. The lesson introduces pre-school age children to the importance of eating a "rainbow" of colors of fruits and vegetables. Download a lesson plan.

·         Fruit and Veggie Champs – This is a web site which offers games, coloring sheets, recipes and activity pages on healthy eating for children 2 – 8 years of age. Can be done as a presentation or as an individual home activity.  Visit www.foodchamps.org

·         Stay Safe - Lessons on sun safety; water safety and bicycle safety which can be can be presented in a classroom setting or individually on the web. Download a Summer Safety Lesson Plan

·         Sexual Health /STD Awareness – Evidenced based interactive classroom presentations which provide students with the information and skills they need to lead healthier lives.  DVD/Discussion  Download the HIV/STD Lesson plan

·         Game of Life: When Things Go Wrong, Who Can You Call?  – Program designed to spark awareness among teenagers about the various social issues that exist, as well as the agencies and programs in the local community that are in place to help address such issues.     Community Programs

·         Health Ease - is an evidenced based program developed through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the New Jersey Department of Health & Senior Services. Each 1 hour session provides practical tips anyone can use to be proactive in living a healthier life.   

·         Maximizing memory

·         Osteoporosis and fall prevention

·         Heart health

·         Medication use/misuse

·         Nutrition and physical activity. Each session provides practical tips anyone can use to be proactive in living a healthier life.  

 

Take Control of Your Health – Evidenced based program designed for People with any ongoing or long-term health conditions.  Presented as a workshop, given two and a half hours, once a week, for six weeks, in community settings such as senior centers, churches, libraries and hospitals. Participants learn:

  • How to solve problems;
  • How to deal with emotions;
  • How to breathe better;
  • How to relax;
  • How to deal with pain and fatigue;
  • How to have healthy eating habits;
  • How to communicate;
  • How to use medications correctly and
  • How to manage depression.
